Elon Musk Hints at American Party Midterm Run in 2026

Tech billionaire Elon Musk appears poised to shake up the 2026 midterm elections with his newly formed American Party. Responding to questions on X (formerly Twitter), Musk suggested the party would be on the ballot next year.

He likened his strategy to a military maneuver, stating, “The way we’re going to crack the uniparty system is by using a variant of how Epaminondas shattered the myth of Spartan invincibility at Leuctra. Extremely concentrated force at a precise location on the battlefield.”

This announcement follows Musk’s recent declaration of intent to form the “America Party” amidst his ongoing feud with President Biden over spending policies. Musk has called the President’s spending bill “utterly insane” and “destructive.”

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO polled his followers on X about the party’s creation, asking, “Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system. Should we create the America Party?”

After a resounding positive response, Musk declared the party officially formed. He stated his goal is to give voters back their freedom and combat what he perceives as a one-party system driven by wasteful spending.

Musk outlined a strategy of focusing on a small number of Senate and House seats, leveraging thin legislative margins to influence policy. However, the announcement has been met with mixed reactions.

Some express concern about the viability of a third party and the logistical hurdles involved in achieving ballot access in all states. Others point to the existing Libertarian Party’s established presence as a potential obstacle.
