Gas Station Drain Yields Fortune for Shocked Woman

Additional Coverage:

Talk about a lucky break! A recent “Antiques Roadshow” guest got a stunning surprise when she brought in two of her late mother’s rings for appraisal.

One, a diamond ring, had sentimental value, while the other, a gold band with turquoise and small diamonds, was a bit of a mystery. Expert John Benjamin valued the diamond ring at around $136-$204, a respectable sum.

But the real shocker came with the second ring.

The guest recounted the incredible story of how her mother nearly lost the ring down a gas station sink on her way to Brighton. Thinking quickly, her mother managed to get someone to open the drain trap and miraculously retrieve the ring.

Benjamin, intrigued, examined the ring, noting its “large” 4.3-carat diamond. While not a flawless, colorless stone, its J color grading didn’t detract from its impressive value.

The audience gasped as Benjamin revealed the ring’s worth: a staggering $27,205! The guest, understandably shocked, expressed her gratitude for the person who helped rescue the ring from the drain, a moment that clearly saved her mother – and now her – a small fortune.
