- Paul Simon’s daughter unleashes on Richard Gere over broken promise to preserve childhood home (foxnews.com)
Lulu Simon, daughter of musician Paul Simon, publicly slammed actor Richard Gere on social media for selling her childhood home to real estate developers. The developers are reportedly demolishing the Connecticut house to build nine new properties.
Simon took to Instagram Tuesday, expressing her continued animosity towards Gere. “Just in case anyone was wondering if I still hate Richard Gere – I do!”
she wrote, adding, “He bought my childhood home, promised he would take care of the land… proceeded to never actually move in & just sold it to a developer as 9 separate plots ;).” She punctuated her feelings with a simple, pointed, “Hate!
Him!” alongside a screenshot of an article detailing Gere’s real estate deal.
Simon’s anger extended to the fate of her deceased pets, reportedly buried on the property. “I hope my dead pets buried in that backyard haunt you until you descend into a slow and unrelenting madness,” she posted, over a photo of Gere surrounded by images of cats and dogs.
Gere purchased the New Canaan property from Simon’s father and his wife, Edie Brickell, in 2022 for $10.8 million. He and his wife, Alejandra Silva, then sold it in October 2024 for $10.75 million. News of the planned demolition surfaced in May 2025.
The sale and subsequent demolition follow the Geres’ relocation to Spain in late 2024, citing Silva’s desire to be closer to her family. Gere had previously spoken about his enthusiasm for the move, noting his love for Spain and its culture. While Silva has expressed a desire to return to the US eventually, the family currently plans to remain in Spain for the next few years.
Representatives for both Lulu Simon and Richard Gere have not yet responded to requests for comment.
