John Goodman, 73, looked fantastic at the premiere of “Smurfs” on Sunday, showing off his impressive 200-pound weight loss. Goodman voices Papa Smurf in the animated film, sharing the screen with stars like Rihanna, James Corden, and Octavia Spencer.

Goodman’s transformation is the result of dedicated exercise, including boxing and daily walks, combined with a healthier diet. He told Rolling Stone in 2023 that he enjoys boxing training, focusing on hitting mitts and bags, and improving his footwork. He joked about not being ready to spar, quipping, “Once I get whacked in the face, I don’t know if I wouldn’t lose it.”

The actor’s weight loss journey began in 2007. He revealed to ABC News in 2016 that he overcame his habit of constant snacking and “eating alcoholically.” He described his previous pattern of losing weight and then rewarding himself with unhealthy choices, leading to weight gain.

Goodman explained that staying active helps him keep up with the demands of his work, saying it gives him the energy he needs. He also admitted his motivation for change was simply getting “sick and tired of looking at myself” in the mirror.

Goodman’s career took off in the 1980s with his role on “Roseanne.” He has since become a familiar face and voice in film and television, with notable roles in “Monsters Inc.,” “Cars,” “The Flintstones,” “Argo,” and “The Big Lebowski.” He currently stars in “The Conners” and “The Righteous Gemstones.”
