Local News: Eliquis Offers New Direct-to-Patient Savings Program

Bristol Myers Squibb and Pfizer recently announced a new program to help patients access the popular blood thinner Eliquis (apixaban) at a reduced cost. Starting September 8th, eligible patients who are uninsured, underinsured, or prefer to pay out-of-pocket can purchase Eliquis directly through the Eliquis 360 Support program at a 40% discount. This lowers the monthly cost from the list price of $606 to $346.

The program will ship Eliquis directly to patients in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. According to Bristol Myers Squibb CEO Christopher Boerner, Eliquis is the nation’s most prescribed oral anticoagulant, with over 15 million Americans having been prescribed the medication.

In the last financial quarter of 2024, Eliquis generated over $3 billion in sales. Boerner stated the program aims to provide better access and outcomes for patients.

This move follows a trend of pharmaceutical companies offering self-pay programs as an alternative to traditional insurance coverage. Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk have implemented similar programs for their weight-loss and diabetes medications.
