Adirondack Mountain Hiking Trail Closed Due to Moose’s Peculiar Behavior
A popular hiking trail in New York’s Adirondack Mountains remains closed due to a bull moose exhibiting some rather unusual behavior. The moose has taken up residence on or near the Goodman Mountain trail in the Horseshoe Lake Wild Forest area.
Originally closed on June 6th, the trail closure continues as the moose’s strange antics persist. According to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), the moose is unresponsive to attempts to relocate it and may be suffering from an underlying illness.
While the DEC has managed to observe the moose up close, the exact nature of the potential illness remains unknown. The animal is currently being monitored by trail cameras, and the trail will stay closed until deemed safe for hikers.
The DEC reminds the public that moose, despite not showing aggression in this instance, are large animals and can be dangerous if approached. Hikers are advised to respect the closure and heed posted signage.
