- Wife of man who died being pulled into MRI machine breaks silence with heartbreaking four words (irishstar.com)
Westbury, NY – A tragic accident at a local MRI facility has claimed the life of a 61-year-old man, leaving his wife devastated and questioning the actions of the technician. Keith McAllister was accompanying his wife, Adrienne Jones-McAllister, to an appointment at Nassau Open MRI on Wednesday afternoon.
Mr. McAllister routinely assisted his wife getting on and off the MRI table due to a previous knee injury.
According to Mrs. Jones-McAllister, a tragic chain of events unfolded as they entered the MRI room.
Mr. McAllister was wearing a heavy, 20-pound metal chain, which he used for weight training.
While Mrs. Jones-McAllister acknowledges the danger of metal near MRI machines, she insists the technician had seen her husband wearing the chain during previous visits and had discussed it with him.
She believes the technician should have been more vigilant in ensuring the chain was removed before approaching the machine.
In a heartbreaking account, Mrs. Jones-McAllister described the moment the accident occurred.
As she and the technician were laughing, the powerful magnetic force of the MRI machine suddenly pulled Mr. McAllister in.
Both she and the technician tried desperately to free him, but his body went limp in her arms. Mrs.
Jones-McAllister believes her husband suffered multiple heart attacks as a result of the trauma, ultimately leading to his death.
The grieving widow tearfully expressed her anguish, stating the incident continues to replay in her mind. She accuses the technician of negligence, emphasizing the prior conversations about the chain.
Metal objects are strictly prohibited near MRI machines due to the intense magnetic fields generated. These fields can cause metal objects to become dangerous projectiles and can also generate heat, potentially causing burns. The Nassau Open MRI has not yet released a statement regarding the incident.
