Jeopardy! GOAT Ken Jennings, now host, was once schooled by Alex Trebek over a rather interesting answer.
During a “Tool Time” category, the clue read, “This term for a long-handled gardening tool can also mean an immoral pleasure seeker.” Jennings, quick on the buzzer, responded with “What’s a hoe?”
Trebek, with a raised eyebrow, quipped, “Whoa. They teach you that in school in Utah, huh?”
The correct answer, provided by another contestant, was “rake.” Jennings, far ahead in the game, simply laughed it off.
Fans still recall the moment fondly. “This is why Ken is the GOAT,” one commented.
Others agreed, some even suggesting Jennings deserved the points. “I don’t know what surprised me more,” another fan chimed in, “Alex’s surprise at the answer or the fact that it wasn’t right!”
Even as host, Jennings has had his share of on-air slip-ups. In one memorable incident, he accidentally revealed the answer to a clue before it was shown.
The category was “Number, please,” and the clue in question: “Normally, the human body contains this number of chromosomal pairs.” Contestant Amy correctly answered, “What is 23?”
Jennings, realizing his error, exclaimed, “I don’t know if you noticed, but the numbers 40, 23, 38, and 74…oh s**t!” He had inadvertently revealed the answers to the remaining clues.
While Jennings could only laugh, another contestant benefited from the gaffe, snapping up an easy win on the next question.
