Sparkling Surprise on Antiques Roadshow: Diamonds Mistaken for Stones!

An “Antiques Roadshow” guest received a dazzling surprise when she learned the “white stones” on her great-grandmother’s brooch were actually diamonds! Expert Geoffrey Munn identified the Art Deco piece, noting a black carbon deposit within one of the diamonds, and estimated its value at a stunning $12,000. The guest, clearly astonished, admitted she never thought the stones were real diamonds.

But diamonds weren’t the only treasures uncovered on the show. Another guest’s collection of vintage plastic purses and a bracelet turned out to be made of Bakelite, an early form of plastic.

Expert Kathleen Guzman valued the purses between $500 and $1,500 each. The real shocker came when Guzman appraised the bracelet, a gift from the guest’s mother, at a staggering $6,000 to $8,000!

Overwhelmed with joy, the guest shared a warm hug with Guzman, her excitement palpable. The combined value of the purses and bracelet reached between $9,000 and $11,000, proving that sometimes, treasure can be found in the most unexpected places.
