Muffin Mania: Costco Responds to Customer Feedback, Shrinks Supersized Muffins
Costco, the beloved bulk-buy haven, has a history of facing both praise and criticism for its product choices. Recently, the warehouse giant made a significant change to a popular bakery item, and at least one customer is thrilled.
TikTok user Glo (@gloyoyo) shared her excitement about Costco’s muffin makeover. Previously, the store sold muffins in packs of six, but these weren’t your average muffins.
They were enormous, practically the size of two regular muffins combined. And here’s the kicker: Costco required customers to purchase two boxes of these mega-muffins.
This two-box rule proved problematic for smaller households like Glo’s, who struggled to consume the sheer volume of muffin and found the bulky boxes a storage challenge.
Now, Costco offers a single box containing eight reasonably sized muffins for $6.99. A welcome change, according to Glo, who happily demonstrated her new muffin routine in a TikTok video: buying just one box.
She recounted past trips where cashiers sent her back to the bakery section to grab a second box. Glo also noted that the muffin wrappers have been updated.
Her video shows her preparing a delicious-looking grilled muffin, buttering and pan-frying it to golden-brown perfection before enjoying it with a cup of tea.
The response online has been largely positive, with many echoing Glo’s sentiments. One commenter expressed relief at the demise of the giant muffins, recalling “weird office breakfast meetings with all those weird giant sad muffins cut in quarters.”
Another user joked about Costco previously having a stack of single muffins near the registers “for people who didn’t know you had to buy the second box.” Of course, not everyone is happy, with one commenter lamenting, “and they justttt made this change cause I currently have two packs of giant muffins in my freezer 😭.”
It seems the great muffin debate continues, but for now, at least, the reign of the giant muffin at Costco has come to an end.
