Birmingham, AL – A three-year-old boy tragically died Friday after being left in a hot vehicle. The incident occurred in the 1500 block of Pine Tree Drive.
Birmingham Police responded to the scene around 5:30 p.m. and found the child, identified as Katerrius Sparks of Bessemer, unresponsive. Birmingham Fire & Rescue pronounced him deceased at the scene.
According to police, Katerrius was in the care of a contractor working for the Alabama Department of Human Resources at the time. The contractor, who has not been identified, is cooperating with the investigation and was questioned at Birmingham Police Headquarters.
The Jefferson County Coroner confirmed the child’s identity. Further details are pending as the investigation continues.
