Chef Ramsay’s Breakfast Sandwich: Simple or Sublime?

Additional Coverage:

Michelin-starred chef Gordon Ramsay isn’t just known for his fiery kitchen persona, but also for surprisingly simple and delicious recipes. One of these, his “perfect” breakfast sandwich, has garnered significant attention. Intrigued, I decided to test it out myself.

Ramsay’s sandwich features bacon, eggs, cheddar, and goat cheese on a brioche bun. What sets it apart is his renowned scrambled egg technique, which involves a precise on-and-off heating process designed to achieve maximum creaminess. While the official recipe online seemed to call for an excessive number of eggs, I halved most of the ingredient amounts.

Preparing the sandwich was a multi-stage process. First, I prepped the ingredients: dicing shallots, slicing spring onions, and cutting bacon into thin strips. While the bacon cooked with the shallots, I lightly toasted the brioche buns.

Then came the moment of truth: the eggs. Following Ramsay’s method, I cooked the eggs in a pan with butter, stirring constantly and removing the pan from the heat every minute for 30 seconds.

This on-off process was repeated until the eggs reached the desired consistency. A dollop of crème fraîche and the spring onions were then added to the eggs.

Assembling the sandwich was a delight: goat cheese on the top bun, bacon and shallot mixture on the bottom, followed by a generous serving of the creamy scrambled eggs, a sprinkle of black pepper, and finally, the cheddar cheese.

The verdict? Ramsay’s breakfast sandwich lives up to its name.

The eggs were unbelievably light and fluffy, and the combination of flavors and textures, from the crispy bacon to the soft brioche, was outstanding. My parents, who also had the pleasure of trying the sandwich, were equally impressed.

This recipe is definitely a keeper.
