Birmingham, England – Rock and roll legend Ozzy Osbourne will be laid to rest in his hometown on Wednesday, July 30th. The funeral procession, beginning around 1 PM local time, will journey through Broad Street, offering fans a chance to pay their respects to the Prince of Darkness.
The procession will pause at the Black Sabbath Bench and Bridge, a site that has become a touching memorial for the iconic frontman. A private ceremony for family and close friends will follow.
The procession will feature a live performance by local brass band Bostin’ Brass, adding a unique Birmingham flavor to the farewell. Lord Mayor Zafar Iqbal emphasized the city’s commitment to supporting a fitting tribute for the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, recognizing the profound significance of this moment for Osbourne’s global fanbase. For those unable to attend in person, the Black Sabbath Bench and Bridge will host a live stream of the event.
Osbourne, who passed away on July 22nd at age 76, had previously shared his unconventional funeral preferences, expressing a desire for a celebratory atmosphere rather than a somber affair. While his final wishes included playful pranks and a distinct lack of “mope-fest,” his underlying sentiment was one of gratitude. He emphasized the fortunate lives enjoyed by many, especially rock stars, and wished for his funeral to be a time of thanks.
Osbourne is survived by his wife Sharon, six children, ten grandchildren, and legions of devoted fans worldwide. His final performance with Black Sabbath took place just weeks before his passing, on July 5th in his beloved Birmingham.
