Dentist Guilty of Poisoning Wife

A Colorado dentist has been found guilty of murdering his wife by poisoning her. James Toliver Craig, 47, faces life in prison without the possibility of parole after a jury convicted him of first-degree murder. The verdict came Wednesday after a three-week trial.

Craig was also convicted on five additional counts related to soliciting tampering with evidence, perjury, and murder. He was acquitted on a lesser manslaughter charge.

Prosecutors argued that Craig poisoned his wife, Angela Craig, 47, motivated by financial strain and an affair with a Texas orthodontist. The defense countered that Angela Craig was suicidal.

Angela Craig died in August 2023 after a series of hospital visits. She experienced dizziness, vomiting, headaches, blurred vision, seizures, and other symptoms before falling into a coma. The official cause of death was determined to be acute poisoning by cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, a chemical found in eye drops.

Testimony during the trial painted a picture of Craig’s double life. His lover, a Texas orthodontist, revealed they exchanged thousands of texts in a short period, with Craig falsely claiming to be divorced. Another woman testified that Craig had discussed wanting to “purge” his wife and detailed methods of killing someone with an injection.

Two of Craig’s children testified against him, describing their mother’s love for her family and hobbies. They disputed the defense’s claims of suicidal ideation.

A close friend also testified that Angela Craig never expressed any desire to end her life. She recounted finding Angela Craig ill and unable to eat or stand, with James Craig dismissing her condition as post-COVID symptoms.
