Jason Momoa Shaves Iconic Beard for ‘Dune 3’

Actor Jason Momoa has bid farewell to his signature beard, a look he’s sported for over six years. In a recent Instagram video, Momoa can be seen shaving, expressing his displeasure with the results, saying, “Goddammit, I hate it.”

The drastic change is for his reprisal of the role of Duncan Idaho in “Dune: Part Three,” a character who is notably clean-shaven. Momoa jokingly dedicated the shave to “Dune” director Denis Villeneuve.

During a prior appearance on “TODAY,” Momoa confirmed his return as Duncan Idaho, swordmaster of House Atreides, despite the character’s demise in the first “Dune” film. He remained tight-lipped about the specifics of his return, hinting that fans of Frank Herbert’s book series would understand. “Dune: Part Three” is slated for release in December 2026.

Fan reaction to Momoa’s new look has been mixed. While some praised his beardless appearance, calling him “handsome” and appreciating the reveal of his “beautiful face,” others expressed their preference for the beard, with one fan simply pleading, “Put it back.” Another commenter suggested that while the beardless look made him appear “young and daring,” the beard gave him a more “mature and serious” air.

This isn’t the first time Momoa has shaved for a cause. In 2019, he shaved in a YouTube video to promote the use of recyclable aluminum over plastic.
