- Prosecutors cite Diddy’s freak offs in opposing his latest bail try: He’s no ‘ordinary John’ (businessinsider.com)
Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team is fighting to keep him out of jail as he awaits sentencing on Mann Act violations, arguing his role was minimal and not deserving of continued detainment. Prosecutors, however, are pushing back hard, painting a picture far different from the image of a “mere John” presented by the defense.
Combs’ lawyers contend their client’s involvement was limited to observing and recording encounters between his girlfriends and male escorts, emphasizing his lack of direct participation. They also claim his actions fall under First Amendment protections. Combs is requesting to be released on $50 million bail and remain at his Miami residence until his October 3rd sentencing.
Prosecutors strongly disagree, alleging Combs played a much more active role. Their filing details a pattern of behavior spanning decades, claiming Combs facilitated the transportation of individuals for prostitution “hundreds of times.”
They further allege Combs used drugs to coerce participation in these encounters and employed a “small army” of staff to cater to his needs. The prosecution also points to Combs’ history of domestic violence and alleged attempts to obstruct justice.
The stark contrast between the defense’s portrayal of Combs as a passive observer and the prosecution’s depiction of a manipulative and controlling figure is at the heart of this ongoing legal battle. The final decision on Combs’ pre-sentencing confinement rests with US District Judge Arun Subramanian. Prosecutors are seeking a sentence of at least five years for the two Mann Act convictions.
