For Allie Hubers, being an Air Force wife means adapting to the unpredictable rhythms of military life while nurturing her own ambitions. While her husband’s career as a pilot often takes center stage, Allie has found ways to maintain her individuality and pursue her personal and professional goals.
“It’s easy to lose yourself in the shadow of your spouse’s service,” Allie admits. She’s learned to navigate the challenges of prioritizing her husband’s demanding schedule while carving out space for her own career aspirations. Allie credits her supportive husband and a flexible employer for enabling her to maintain a fulfilling career in data analytics for the past decade.
Remote work has been a game-changer, allowing Allie to continue working even with frequent relocations. She’s worked remotely from Oklahoma while her husband was in training, commuting back to South Dakota every two weeks to maintain a presence in the office.
She even managed to earn her MBA during this time. Now fully remote, Allie appreciates the stability her job provides in the midst of constant change.
In addition to her data analytics work, she also enjoys freelance writing and teaching as an adjunct instructor.
Allie emphasizes the importance of maintaining friendships outside of the military community. While she cherishes the close bonds formed within the Air Force, she also prioritizes time with lifelong friends from college and her hometown. These connections offer a sense of normalcy and remind her of who she is beyond her role as a military spouse.
Travel is another passion Allie refuses to compromise on. Despite her husband’s demanding schedule, she continues to explore the world with family and friends. From a three-week Australian cruise with her parents and sister to a South African safari with a childhood friend, Allie embraces opportunities for adventure and creates lasting memories.
Allie’s story is a testament to the resilience and determination of military spouses who strive to balance the demands of military life with their own aspirations. She demonstrates that it’s possible to maintain a strong sense of self while supporting a loved one’s military career.
