Juror Admits to Leaking Secrets in Murder Case

Additional Coverage:

BOSTON — A former grand juror involved in the high-profile Karen Read murder case has admitted to leaking confidential information. Jessica Leslie, 34, pleaded guilty Monday in Boston federal court to criminal contempt for disclosing protected grand jury details.

Leslie’s leak included witness names, testimony content, and other evidence presented to the grand jury between August 2022 and March 2024. While the Department of Justice hasn’t revealed how the leak was discovered, sources suggest authorities monitored social media and other communications.

Leslie’s plea agreement includes one night in jail (already served) and two years of post-release supervision. Sentencing is scheduled for September 26.

The leaked information stemmed from the investigation into Read, who was ultimately acquitted of murdering her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, in 2022. Read was, however, convicted of operating under the influence and sentenced to probation. The case involved two trials, the first ending in a mistrial.
