“Pawn Stars” Rick Harrison Snags 18th-Century Map
Rick Harrison, the ever-negotiating “Pawn Stars” boss, surprised viewers by shelling out $2,000 for a historical world map. The seller, David, brought in the antique hoping to score between $3,000 and $4,000. Harrison, intrigued by the map’s depiction of California as an island, called in his expert to assess its authenticity and value.
The expert confirmed the map’s origins, placing it between 1762 and 1784. He marveled at its condition and the “California as an island” detail, a common misconception on maps until the late 18th century. Impressed, the expert declared it “a nice win” for David.
Armed with the expert’s assessment, Harrison initially offered $1,500. David, aware of the map’s value, countered with $2,500.
After some back-and-forth, they settled on $2,000. A satisfied David left the shop, $1,000 richer and with a bit of historical knowledge under his belt.
