Local Mom Turns Inheritance into Laundry Room of Dreams

After the passing of her stepmother, local resident Alexandra Frost received an unexpected inheritance. Rather than traditional investments, Frost chose to invest in her family’s well-being by creating a dream laundry room.

“My stepmom always said she ‘had enough money but not enough time’,” Frost shared, reflecting on her stepmother’s two-decade battle with metastatic breast cancer. Inspired by this sentiment, Frost decided to use the inheritance to improve her family’s day-to-day life.

With five young children, laundry was a constant chore. The existing laundry room, cramped and inefficient, added to the burden. Frost envisioned a transformation, converting the attached garage into a functional and aesthetically pleasing laundry space.

Initially budgeting $20,000, the project expanded to include knocking down walls, installing new appliances (including a second washer and dryer), and custom cabinetry. The final cost landed closer to $30,000.

The new laundry room is a testament to thoughtful design. Personalized laundry bins, a “drop zone” for backpacks and shoes, and a large folding table promote organization and efficiency. A large window overlooks the backyard, allowing Frost to watch her children play while tackling the laundry.

“Laundry used to be the bane of my existence,” Frost admits. Now, the redesigned space has become a hub for family connection and a peaceful retreat. She often finds herself chatting with her children while sorting laundry, or simply enjoying the quiet moments while remembering her stepmother.

Frost sees the room as a tribute to her stepmother’s memory and a reminder to cherish time with loved ones. “I can sense her spirit in the room,” she says, acknowledging the role the inheritance played in creating this special space for her family.
