From Superman to ICE Agent? Dean Cain Trades Cape for Badge
Dean Cain, famous for his role as Superman in the 90s TV series Lois & Clark, is making headlines again, this time for joining the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Cain announced his new role this week, sparking a surge in applications for the agency.
Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin confirmed the increased interest, thanking Cain for highlighting ICE’s work “to remove terrorists, pedophiles, gang members and murderers from American communities.” Cain took to social media earlier this week to encourage potential recruits, coinciding with an ICE hiring push.
Cain reiterated his support for law enforcement on TMZ Live, stating his belief that ICE officers are unfairly criticized. “I’m joining to back law enforcement officers who, in my view, are being unfairly vilified for doing their jobs,” he explained.
The agency reports receiving over 80,000 applications in recent days, attributing the spike to both Cain’s celebrity endorsement and the ongoing recruitment campaign. This influx of applications comes as welcome news for ICE, offering a moment of positive press amidst frequent political scrutiny.
Cain, who has become increasingly vocal about law-and-order issues, revealed on Fox News that he is already a sworn deputy sheriff and reserve police officer. He stated his intention to be sworn in as an ICE agent “ASAP.” However, Mediaite founder Dan Abrams expressed skepticism, suggesting Cain’s role might be more honorary than operational.
Meanwhile, the animated sitcom South Park satirized the ICE recruitment drive in a recent episode. The episode depicts a job-seeking Mr.
Mackey amidst a storyline featuring Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in tactical gear, seemingly referencing the administration’s recruitment efforts. The show also took a jab at the Trump administration in a separate scene, further adding to the political commentary.
