Ancient Elephant Bones a Bargain on “Pawn Stars”
History buffs and fans of the show “Pawn Stars” know that Rick Harrison has a soft spot for unusual items. Among the oddities that have graced his counter are various prehistoric remains. In one episode, Harrison snagged the bones of a multi-million-year-old elephant for a mere $2,500.
The seller, who had inherited the bones, brought in a set of teeth and a tusk. After expressing interest, Harrison consulted expert Andre Lujan to assess the items.
Lujan was immediately impressed, identifying the bones as belonging to an extinct elephant species that once roamed Africa, Asia, and Europe. He noted the backward-pointing tusks, similar to a mammoth, but clarified these were distinctly different due to the unique ridge pattern on the teeth.
Lujan estimated the bones to be between 15 and 20 million years old.
Lujan appraised the set at $4,000. Harrison initially offered $2,000, and after a brief negotiation, settled with the seller at $2,500.
While Harrison got a steal on these ancient bones, it’s not the first time he’s invested in prehistoric finds. In another episode, he purchased a 50-60 million-year-old crocodile skull, even paying $1,000 over the asking price!
Clearly, when it comes to history, Harrison’s willing to dig deep.
