Butte, Montana—Brandon Blackstock, music manager and ex-husband of singer Kelly Clarkson, passed away at his home here on August 7th. He was 48 years old. Silver Bow County Coroner Dan Hollis confirmed that Blackstock’s death was due to melanoma, a form of skin cancer, and the manner of death was natural causes.
Blackstock’s passing was initially confirmed by a family representative, who released a statement expressing their deep sadness and requesting privacy. The statement revealed that Blackstock had bravely battled cancer for over three years.
Clarkson recently postponed her Las Vegas residency dates due to a family emergency, citing her ex-husband’s illness and her need to be present for their two children, River Rose and Remington Alexander. Sources close to the singer revealed that Clarkson remained protective of Blackstock throughout his illness and has been devastated by the loss. Despite a highly publicized divorce in 2022, Clarkson prioritized the well-being of their children and refrained from speaking negatively about Blackstock.
Clarkson and Blackstock married in 2013, having met years earlier through Blackstock’s father, Narvel Blackstock, who owned the music management company that represented Clarkson. Their divorce settlement granted Clarkson primary physical custody while she continued to pay child support.
Blackstock’s half-brother, Shelby, shared a heartfelt tribute, describing him as “funny, bright, and full of life” and an irreplaceable part of the family. He expressed the deep sense of loss and the cherished memories he will hold onto.
