Whirlwind European Trip Leaves Traveler Wanting More

A recent two-week backpacking trip through Europe left one traveler feeling like they’d barely scratched the surface. Visiting six cities across four countries – Berlin, Vienna, Venice, Rome, Milan, and Zurich – the traveler, while impressed by the iconic sights, felt the constant pressure of the ticking clock.

The fast-paced itinerary, which included three flights and 11 train rides, allowed for only fleeting glimpses of each city’s unique offerings. While highlights like the Brandenburg Gate, the Colosseum, and Venice’s canals were duly checked off the list, the traveler lamented the lack of time for deeper exploration.

“48 hours isn’t enough time to explore a city,” they admitted, recalling the feeling of constantly moving on just as they began to connect with a place. From Vienna’s vibrant art scene to the blend of ancient and modern in Rome, each destination left them craving more. The picturesque Swiss landscapes of Zurich were the final stop, leaving the traveler wishing for a mountain hike they never had time for.

The whirlwind trip highlighted the trade-off between seeing a lot and truly experiencing a place. The traveler’s advice?

Focus on fewer destinations and immerse yourself in the local culture, neighborhoods, and history. While they left with a collection of stunning photos and memories of iconic landmarks, the traveler is already planning return trips to delve deeper into the cities that captivated them.

Sometimes, less is truly more.
