Amidst profound sorrow, a glimmer of hope emerges for the family of slain NYPD Detective First Grade Didarul Islam. His wife, Jamila, gave birth to their third son, Arham, on Sunday, bringing a touch of joy to a family still grieving the loss of their husband and father.

Mayor Eric Adams was present at the hospital with the Islam family during the delivery, sharing in this bittersweet moment. He later expressed the city’s unwavering support for the family on social media, acknowledging the significance of Arham’s birth during this difficult time. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch welcomed Arham, noting that he joins older brothers Ahyan and Azhaan in carrying forward their father’s legacy of service and courage.

Detective Islam, 36, was tragically killed on July 28th while working a security detail at a Park Avenue high-rise. He was one of five victims fatally shot by 27-year-old Shane Tamura of Las Vegas.

Tamura, who also shot a security guard and two civilians, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities believe Tamura intended to target the NFL headquarters in the building but entered the wrong elevator bank.

He reportedly left a note requesting his brain be examined for CTE. Tamura had a documented history of mental health issues.

Detective Islam, the first Bangladesh-born NYPD officer killed in the line of duty, was remembered by those who knew him as a man of deep faith.
