King George to be Crowned Yet Again! Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame Beckons
Big things are happening for country music royalty, George Strait. Hot on the heels of his Kennedy Center Honors announcement, the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame has lassoed the iconic performer for induction in 2026. This marks Strait’s first major accolade specifically recognizing his songwriting prowess.
The Hall of Fame shared the exciting news via Instagram, proclaiming a “legendary weekend” celebrating the 2026 inductees: Don Cook, Keith Gattis, Miranda Lambert, and of course, the King himself. The two-day celebration, set for February 21st in Austin, promises to spotlight these Texas music giants with a unique ceremony and “special performances” yet to be revealed.
The Pearsall native, who honed his musical chops during his high school days and later after serving in the U.S. Army, has penned numerous hits throughout his illustrious career.
From the poignant “I Can’t See Texas From Here” to the party anthem “Here For a Good Time,” Strait’s songwriting has resonated with fans for decades. Other self-penned classics include “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar,” “I Believe,” and “Blue Marlin Blues,” among many others.
This induction marks Strait’s second Hall of Fame honor, following his 2006 Country Music Hall of Fame induction, a rare feat for an artist still actively recording and performing at the time.
