“Pawn Stars” Rick Harrison Makes Historic $250,000 Purchase

Las Vegas pawn shop owner and star of the reality show “Pawn Stars,” Rick Harrison, is known for his tough negotiating tactics. However, even the savviest haggler can be impressed, as evidenced by Harrison’s recent acquisition of a rare 1652 New England Shilling. The coin’s pristine condition and historical significance led Harrison to pay a staggering $250,000, a record purchase for the shop.

Harrison traveled to Boston to meet with the coin’s owner, Edward. The shilling, considered the “holy grail” of colonial coins, is believed to be one of the first coins minted in the English Colonies of America. Edward, who had owned the coin for 30 years, expressed his desire to pass it on to a fellow enthusiast.

Harrison was clearly captivated by the coin’s remarkably well-preserved state. He noted its unclipped condition, a rarity among coins of that era, explaining that clipping – shaving off small portions of precious metal – often led to the destruction of many historical pieces. The清晰的 inscriptions, including the “NE” for New England and the numeral “12” denoting its value of 12 pence, further enhanced its appeal.

After careful examination, Harrison inquired about the asking price. Edward, citing recent sales figures between $250,000 and $400,000, proposed $300,000.

Harrison countered with $225,000. They quickly settled on $250,000, a price Harrison readily accepted, acknowledging the coin’s exceptional quality and potential resale value.

A delighted Edward shared his plans to use the money to purchase a second home in a warmer climate, a welcome escape from New England winters.
