Corvette Recall Over Fire Risk

Additional Coverage:

General Motors has recalled approximately 23,000 Chevrolet Corvettes from model years 2023-2026 due to a fuel leak issue that has been linked to several fires. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that the leak occurs when excess fuel spills into the fuel-filler pocket during refueling. This spilled fuel can then leak onto a hot radiator surface and, if the cooling fan is running, be drawn into the engine compartment, where it vaporizes and can be exposed to an ignition source.

A GM investigation identified four fires potentially linked to this issue, with two cases suggesting malfunctioning gas pumps contributed to the fuel spills. The NHTSA states that approximately 0.1% of the recalled vehicles are estimated to be affected.

Dealers will install a shield to divert spilled fuel as a remedy. A GM spokesperson, in a statement, emphasized the rarity of the issue and the company’s commitment to customer safety, stating that they are working to resolve the matter quickly.
