Kansas City Tax Prep Company Celebrates Swiftie Engagement with Half-Day Off

Love is in the air, and apparently, it’s also a good enough reason to leave work early. Following Taylor Swift’s engagement announcement to Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, local tax preparation company H&R Block gave its employees the afternoon off to join in the city-wide celebration.

Chief People and Culture Officer Tiffany Monroe acknowledged the buzz surrounding the news in an email to staff, playfully suggesting that focusing on work might be a challenge amidst the excitement. “Let’s be honest,” she wrote, “between checking social feeds, debating potential wedding playlists, and most importantly — telling your friends what married filing jointly means, I know focus is in short supply this afternoon.”

Monroe encouraged employees to “go home. Celebrate love.

Speculate about the dress.” She even gave them permission to “argue whether the reception will be held in KC or a castle in Europe,” before getting back to business the following day.

In a later statement, Monroe described the decision as a “fun, lighthearted way” to embrace a moment that captured the hearts of Kansas Citians and fans across the nation. She emphasized that it was ultimately about celebrating love, community, and the spirit of Kansas City.

The happy couple shared the news on social media, posting photos of the proposal and Swift’s impressive diamond ring, estimated to be worth around $1 million. Kelce’s father later revealed that the proposal took place two weeks prior in a garden in Lee’s Summit, a Kansas City suburb.
