Character actor Floyd Levine, a familiar face in film and television for over five decades, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, August 24. He was 93.
Levine’s daughter-in-law, Tracy Robbins, shared the news in a touching Instagram post, remembering him as “the best father-in-law, grandpa, and all around jokester.” Robbins’ tribute celebrated Levine’s love of Frank Sinatra, classic movies, and his infectious sense of humor.
Levine’s career began in the 1970s after he traded in his New York City cab driver’s license for Hollywood dreams. Starting with a role as a police officer in 1972’s Super Fly, Levine went on to appear in nearly 100 films and television shows.
He often portrayed authority figures in films like Death Wish and Dog Day Afternoon, and graced the small screen in popular series such as Starsky & Hutch, Wonder Woman, and Cagney & Lacey. His career continued strong through the ’90s and 2000s with appearances on Baywatch, Melrose Place, and even children’s shows like Kenan & Kel and Cousin Skeeter, the latter two produced by his son, Brian Robbins.
Later film roles included parts in Coach Carter, Norbit, and Meet Dave. Levine’s final on-screen appearance was in the 2012 comedy A Thousand Words.
Levine was predeceased by his wife, Rochelle, in 2022. He is survived by his three children, Sheryl, Marc, and Brian, and several grandchildren.
