Vogue Names Chloe Malle as New Head of Editorial Content

After much speculation, Vogue has announced its new head of editorial content: Chloe Malle. Malle takes the helm following Anna Wintour’s transition to a new role within the company.

Malle is no stranger to the world of Vogue. Her career has been deeply intertwined with the magazine, starting in 2011 as social editor.

She spearheaded Vogue’s wedding and social coverage before becoming a contributing editor (2016-2023) and, most recently, editor of Vogue.com. Malle has also edited several Vogue-related books.

A brief stint at The New York Observer between 2009 and 2011 marks the only time she’s worked outside the iconic fashion magazine.

“I’ve spent my career at Vogue, working across every platform—from print to digital, audio to video, events and social media,” Malle stated. “I love the title, I love the content we create, and I love the editors who create it.

Vogue has already shaped who I am, now I’m excited at the prospect of shaping Vogue.” She also expressed her gratitude for Wintour’s continued mentorship.

Interestingly, Malle, 39, assumes this prominent position at roughly the same age Wintour did over three decades ago. Wintour, whose first edition as editor-in-chief was published when she was 38, held the role for more than 37 years.

Malle’s background is steeped in media. Her mother is the Emmy, Golden Globe, and Academy Award-winning actress Candice Bergen, known for roles in “Murphy Brown,” “Miss Congeniality,” and, fittingly, “Sex and the City,” where she portrayed Vogue’s editor-in-chief. Her father, the late Louis Malle, was a celebrated film director nominated for three Academy Awards.

Acknowledging her privileged upbringing, Malle stated in a recent interview, “There is no question that I have 100 percent benefited from the privilege I grew up in. It’s delusional to say otherwise.

I will say, though, that it has always made me work much harder.” She added that proving herself beyond her family name has been a driving force throughout her career.

Malle currently resides in New York City with her husband and two children. Her recent accomplishments include securing a pre-wedding interview with Lauren Sánchez for Vogue’s June digital cover story, just before Sánchez’s high-profile wedding to Jeff Bezos.
