Demi Moore Praises Emma Heming Willis’ Caregiving Amid Bruce Willis’ Dementia Battle

Actress Demi Moore has publicly commended Emma Heming Willis for her strength and dedication in caring for Bruce Willis following his frontotemporal dementia diagnosis. In a recent interview on “The Oprah Podcast,” Moore expressed her compassion for Emma, highlighting the challenges of navigating such a difficult situation.

“There’s no roadmap for how to deal with this,” Moore shared, emphasizing the immense responsibility Emma has shouldered in managing Bruce’s care. She praised Emma’s recognition of the importance of self-care for caregivers, a topic Emma explores in her upcoming book, “The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope and Yourself on the Caregiving Path.”

The Willis family announced Bruce’s aphasia diagnosis in March 2022, leading to his retirement from acting. The subsequent frontotemporal dementia diagnosis was shared in February 2023. Since then, Emma has been open about her experiences as a caregiver, offering updates on Bruce’s condition and advocating for understanding and support for those in similar situations.

Moore acknowledged the unexpected nature of Bruce’s illness and lauded Emma’s “masterful job” in forging a path forward. She also addressed recent criticism Emma faced for deciding to move Bruce into a separate home with professional caregivers, emphasizing the unfair judgments caregivers often endure. Emma herself responded to the criticism, stressing the need for connection and validation within the caregiving community.

Reflecting on her ex-husband’s health battle, Moore admitted the difficulty of witnessing his transformation. She shared her approach to interacting with Bruce, emphasizing the importance of meeting him “where he’s at” and accepting his current state without dwelling on the past. She highlighted the “sweetness” and “tenderness” that can emerge in these moments.

Moore and Bruce were married from 1987 to 2000 and share three daughters. Bruce and Emma married in 2009 and have two daughters together. The blended family remains close, offering ongoing support to one another.
