Jack Osbourne Opens Up About the Loss of His Father, Ozzy
In a recent emotional YouTube video, Jack Osbourne shared the heartbreaking moment he learned of his father Ozzy Osbourne’s passing. Ozzy, a heavy metal icon, died in July just weeks after a charity performance in his beloved Birmingham.
Jack, 39, recounted the devastating phone call he received at his Los Angeles home. Having just spent a week with his father, including being present for Ozzy’s “Back to the Beginning” performance at Villa Park, Jack tragically didn’t realize it would be the last time he’d see his father alive.
He described returning to Los Angeles on July 13th, noting his father was in good spirits. Then, at 3:45 a.m. on July 22nd, a longtime family employee knocked on his door.
Jack instantly knew something was wrong. Visibly emotional in the video, he shared the moment he learned of his father’s passing.
Overcome with grief, he described the complex mix of emotions, acknowledging a sense of relief that his father was no longer suffering.
While Ozzy’s health had been declining, Jack said the family wasn’t expecting his death. He dismissed rumors of euthanasia, emphasizing that his father was at peace with what was to come.
Ozzy’s official cause of death was listed as an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, with contributing factors including acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease, and Parkinson’s disease with autonomic dysfunction. His occupation on the death certificate?
“Rock legend, songwriter, and performer.”
Upon receiving the news, Jack immediately flew back to England. He shared a touching anecdote from Keanu Reeves about the impact of loss, reflecting on the profound absence he felt.
Beyond a paternal figure, Ozzy was Jack’s colleague, friend, and even housemate. Jack expressed gratitude for the complex, funny, and insightful man his father was.
Jack hinted that more stories about Ozzy’s final days will be shared eventually. He expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from fans and the entertainment industry, stating, “We saw it all. We are so grateful for that, and it meant so much…it was validating because I know we weren’t alone.”
Jack closed by affirming that Ozzy’s legacy will continue to resonate: “He’s exploding through the universe and we’re all seeing it.”
