Legendary actress Julie Andrews, 89, added another Emmy to her collection at Saturday’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards, her third overall and first since 2005. Andrews received the award for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance for her work on Netflix’s “Bridgerton.”
The Hollywood satire “The Studio” from Apple TV+ cleaned up at the ceremony, snagging nine awards in various craft categories, including cinematography, production design, and casting. A running gag emerged as nearly every “Studio” winner thanked “Sal Saperstein” onstage, a nod to a character on the show played by Ike Barinholtz.
Cinematographer Adam Newport-Berra, who won for his work on the meta episode “The Oner,” spoke backstage about how the episode represented the pinnacle of the show’s visual ambitions. The episode depicts a film crew attempting a single-shot take, and was itself filmed in a single shot.
HBO’s “The Penguin” dominated the limited series categories, taking home eight awards, including wins for prosthetic makeup and visual effects. Netflix’s “Adolescence,” acclaimed for its single-shot episodes, won two awards, one of which was for cinematography.
In the drama categories, Disney+’s “Star Wars” series “Andor” secured four Emmys. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards serve as a precursor to the main Primetime Emmy Awards, airing live on CBS on September 14th. Presenter Maya Rudolph highlighted the importance of the Creative Arts Emmys, stating, “This is the real Emmys… nothing would get made” without the crafts celebrated at the ceremony.
