Want a Wedding Guests Will Rave About? Focus on These 3 Things
I’ve attended countless weddings, from backyard barbecues to elegant vineyard affairs. Even a zoo and a museum made the list!
And through it all, I’ve learned a thing or two about what truly makes a wedding memorable for guests. Forget the fancy favors, it’s the basics that matter most.
Here’s the inside scoop:
Feed Your Guests Well (and Plenty of It!)
Let’s be honest, a single sausage on a bun doesn’t cut it, no matter how picturesque the sunset. Guests remember when they leave a wedding hungry.
A good meal is part of the unspoken wedding guest agreement – we invest in your big day (travel, gifts, outfits) and expect a decent return in culinary delights. Skip skimpy cocktail hour snacks and consider shared platters.
They offer variety, generous portions, and a touch of elegance. Everyone wins.
Get the Party Started with a Killer Dance Floor
Weddings are about celebrating love, yes, but they’re also a chance for guests to dress up, socialize, and dance the night away! A live band can be fantastic, but only with a well-curated playlist.
Nothing clears a dance floor faster than boring music. Pro tip: start with slower tunes and gradually increase the tempo.
Blend your personal favorites with classic wedding anthems to get everyone grooving.
Keep the Speeches Short and Sweet
Speeches can be heartwarming and hilarious, but they can also be painfully long and awkward. Limit the number of speakers (not everyone needs a microphone) and set a time limit.
Gently remind parents that this isn’t a eulogy – focus on the happy couple! Encourage speakers to mention both partners and highlight what makes their relationship special.
Aim to wrap up speeches before the main course, minimizing pre-speech jitters (and maximizing dance time!).
