Genoa City Gets Ready for Jill Abbott’s Return This Fall

Fan-favorite character Jill Abbott is returning to The Young and the Restless this fall, and it sounds like her arrival will shake things up. CBS recently announced the show’s fall premiere date, teasing the much-anticipated return of Jill, played once again by Jess Walton.

In an interview, head writer and executive producer Josh Griffith spilled the tea on upcoming storylines, including what’s in store for Jill. Viewers last saw Jill via video chat, with son Billy (Jason Thompson) issuing a dramatic ultimatum about the family company, Chancellor Industries. “If you take Chancellor away from me,” Billy declared, “there’s no coming back for me.”

But it looks like Jill is ready to mend fences. Griffith says she’ll be back in Genoa City soon, hoping to smooth things over with Billy.

However, her arrival is complicated by her close relationship with Cane (Billy Flynn), who she sees as the son Billy never quite was. This dynamic is sure to add fuel to the fire.

The history between Jill and Cane is a tangled one. He initially came to town pretending to be Jill’s son, Phillip Chancellor III, and they formed a strong bond that survived even after the truth came out.

According to Griffith, Jill’s continued connection with Cane will be a major source of tension for Billy. “She has seen that Cane has done what she’s always wanted Billy to do, and he’s been unable,” Griffith explains, “so that’s just going to feed into Billy’s own insecurity and anger.”

For those unfamiliar with Y&R history, Jill Abbott is a legacy character, first appearing on the show in 1973. The role has been played by several actresses over the years, but Jess Walton has made the part her own since 1987. Jill is known for her legendary rivalry with Katherine Chancellor, her numerous romantic relationships, and her two children, Phillip Chancellor III and Billy Abbott.

Tune in to The Young and the Restless this fall to see what drama unfolds with Jill’s return! The show airs weekdays on CBS and streams weeknights on Paramount+.
