Worst Fast-Food Chicken Sandwiches Named

Additional Coverage:

Think that crispy chicken sandwich is a healthy alternative to a burger? Think again.

A new study by PlushCare reveals just how unhealthy some of these sandwiches can be. They ranked fast food chicken sandwiches based on calories, saturated fat, sugar, and sodium, creating an “unhealthiness score.”

Here are some of the worst offenders:

Surprisingly Not So Bad:

  • McDonald’s McChicken: Scoring a 14 on the unhealthiness scale, the McChicken is the least unhealthy option on the list. While not exactly health food, it fares better than its competitors.
  • Dairy Queen Original Chicken Strip Sandwich: This sandwich earned a 21, largely due to its high sodium content. The study also notes the use of lower-grade chicken strips.
  • Culver’s Crispy Chicken Sandwich: Another sandwich with a score of 21, Culver’s offering packs over half the recommended daily sodium intake.

Middle of the Pack:

  • Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich: Even this cult favorite isn’t immune to the unhealthiness list, scoring a 25.
  • Wendy’s Classic Chicken Sandwich: Despite being “fresh, never frozen,” this sandwich scores a 26 due to high sodium.
  • KFC Classic Chicken Sandwich: With 650 calories and 1,260mg of sodium, this sandwich earned a score of 27.

The Hall of Shame:

  • Popeyes Chicken Sandwich Classic: Taking the top spot (or bottom, depending on how you look at it) with a score of 39, this sandwich is loaded with saturated fat and sodium.
  • Fatburger Crispy Chicken Sandwich: With a whopping 2,350mg of sodium, this sandwich exceeds the recommended daily intake.
  • Zaxby’s Signature Sandwich with Zax Sauce: The Zax Sauce is the culprit here, contributing to a massive 2,610mg of sodium and 43g of fat.

The study highlights the hidden dangers lurking in seemingly healthier fast food choices. So next time you’re craving a quick meal, remember that not all chicken sandwiches are created equal.
