Deltona, FL – Two boys, ages 12 and 13, are facing multiple charges after their mothers turned them in for vandalizing a local elementary school library. The pair caused over $50,000 in damages to the Friendship Elementary library.
Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a fire alarm at the school around 1 a.m. They discovered extensive damage to the library, including a shattered glass door, defaced media center, destroyed furniture, scattered books, and graffiti.
Surveillance footage captured the two boys, one wearing a Monster Energy drink hat and both in face masks, entering the library earlier that night. They apparently returned later to admire their work and caused additional damage, triggering the fire alarm.
The Sheriff’s Office posted images from the surveillance footage on Facebook, asking for the public’s help in identifying the vandals. Tips poured in, and ultimately, the boys’ mothers contacted authorities and identified their sons.
Both boys are now facing charges including burglary, trespassing, criminal mischief, and theft. The incident has sparked praise for the mothers online for holding their children accountable. Many commenters emphasized the importance of teaching children about consequences.
