Emmy Nominee Sofia Vergara Misses Awards Due to Allergic Reaction

“Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara had an unexpected detour to the emergency room Sunday night, forcing her to miss her presenting duties at the 77th Emmy Awards. The actress, 53, revealed on Instagram that a sudden and severe eye allergy landed her in the ER just as she was about to head to the ceremony.

Vergara shared a photo of her affected eye, along with videos of herself in a hospital bed and using a specialized eye wash station. She captioned the post, “Didn’t make it to the Emmys but made it to the ER…

Sorry I had to cancel! Craziest eye [allergy] right before getting in the car!”

She did not elaborate on the cause of the allergic reaction.

Vergara was scheduled to be one of the presenters at the Emmys, which aired live on CBS. The star-studded presenter lineup also included Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Stephen Colbert, and Sydney Sweeney. She wasn’t the only absence; “Grey’s Anatomy” star Eric Dane also missed the ceremony, where he was expected to celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary.

Ironically, while Vergara sought medical attention, medical dramas triumphed at the awards. HBO’s “The Pitt” won big, including the coveted drama series award, while stars Noah Wyle and Katherine LaNasa also took home Emmys. Other winners included Apple TV+’s “The Studio” and Netflix’s “Adolescence”.
