Actress Minnie Driver Wades into Kimmel Controversy, Questions Double Standard
Actress Minnie Driver didn’t mince words when she weighed in on the recent suspension of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. Kimmel’s show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, was put on indefinite hiatus by ABC following controversial comments he made about conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
Driver took to Instagram Stories to express her views, questioning the network’s decision while highlighting remarks made by Fox News host Brian Kilmeade, who recently suggested that homeless individuals should receive involuntary lethal injections. Kilmeade later apologized for his statement.
“The first amendament [sic] comes first… Doesn’t it, or is that over now?”
Driver wrote, sharing a post that quoted Kimmel’s controversial remarks. She then pointedly contrasted Kimmel’s suspension with Kilmeade’s continued employment: “But @kilmeade says homeless people should be killed by lethal injection on Fox and Friends and he still has his job.
The first amendment is for everyone. Even a__holes.”
Driver further underscored her opinion with images of Jesus and Benjamin Franklin seemingly casting judgment on the situation. While not typically known for overtly political posts on social media, the actress has a history of expressing her views on political matters. She joins a chorus of celebrities, including Rosie O’Donnell, Melissa Gilbert, Christie Brinkley, Ben Stiller, and Kathy Griffin, who have publicly commented on Kimmel’s suspension.
