A military helicopter crashed Wednesday night near Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in Washington state during a routine training exercise. The crash occurred around 9 p.m. local time, according to JBLM Garrison Public Affairs Officer Scot Keith.
While details remain scarce, an Army spokesperson confirmed the helicopter was on a routine training flight when contact was lost, suggesting a possible malfunction. Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders reported that the crash site has been located, but intense heat from the wreckage is hindering rescue efforts.
Early reports indicated the crash may have occurred near Summit Lake. JBLM officials stated they are working closely with local authorities to provide necessary support.
The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
