Ice-T Reassures Fans After Fin’s Shocking Attack on Law & Order: SVU

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as actor and rapper Ice-T, known to many as Tracy Lauren Marrow, has confirmed his character, Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, will return after a brutal ambush in the Season 27 premiere.

The season’s inaugural episode, which aired on September 25, saw Fin ambushed and severely beaten, leading to his hospitalization. Following the dramatic events, Ice-T took to X (formerly Twitter) on September 25 to address concerned viewers.

“SVU fans wanna know how I got Fd up on last nights Episode….? It was in the Script..

Lol Don’t worry you already know ‘I’ll be back,'” he posted, easing fears about Fin’s future on the long-running NBC drama.

In an August 2025 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ice-T further elaborated on the incident. “I show up this season in the first episode.

I get my a-s beaten and end up in the hospital. So I’m like, what the f–k is going on?”

he recounted, confirming that Fin would be absent from the second episode but would make his return in the third. He also noted the ensemble nature of the cast, explaining how characters are moved around within the narrative.

Jokingly, Ice-T stated he expects to remain on the Dick Wolf-produced series unless his character “get shot in the head.” He also speculated on the flexibility of the “Wolf universe,” suggesting that even if a character departs from SVU, they could potentially reappear in another of Wolf’s shows, such as Law & Order: Organized Crime or the Chicago franchise. “As long as you stay on Dick Wolf’s good side, you’ll probably be employed,” he quipped.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight in September 2025, Ice-T reflected on his extensive history with Dick Wolf productions, which includes New York Undercover and Swift Justice, before joining SVU. He revealed he was initially hired for just four episodes in 2000.

He believes the show’s longevity, now spanning over 25 years, is tied to Mariska Hargitay (Olivia Benson), who also serves as an executive producer. Ice-T theorized that SVU‘s enduring appeal lies in its dual role as entertainment and “therapy to a lot of people,” addressing real-world issues that resonate with its dedicated fanbase.
