Grand Ole Opry Makes Historic Overseas Debut in London
Nashville’s beloved Grand Ole Opry, a cornerstone of country music for a century, recently embarked on a groundbreaking journey, taking its iconic show across the Atlantic for the very first time. As part of its ongoing Opry 100 celebration, this historic event in London united music fans and artists for a memorable one-night-only performance.
Titled “Grand Ole Opry: Live in London,” the sold-out concert drew an enthusiastic crowd of over 5,000 country music enthusiasts. The lineup featured some of the Opry’s most celebrated artists, including Luke Combs, Ashley McBryde, Carly Pearce, Darius Rucker, and Marty Stuart.
Adding a unique international flavor to the evening were special guest artists from the United Kingdom: Mumford & Sons and Breabach. For Mumford & Sons, the event held particular significance, marking their debut both at the Grand Ole Opry and at London’s historic Royal Albert Hall.
A deeply symbolic moment occurred when performers stepped onto a replica of “The Circle”—a segment of wood crafted from the original floorboards of Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, the Opry’s former home. This revered piece of history, currently housed at the Opry House, was transported across the ocean as a powerful tribute to the institution’s enduring legacy.
In true Opry tradition, the night was filled with collaborative performances. Highlights included Darius Rucker and Breabach joining forces for “Wagon Wheel.” Carly Pearce and Luke Combs shared the stage for “I Hope You’re Happy Now,” while Ashley McBryde and Marty Stuart delivered a rendition of “The Whiskey Ain’t Workin’ Anymore.”
The concert concluded with the entire cast coming together for powerful performances of “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” and the classic “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”
For those who missed this landmark event, opportunities to experience the magic are available. Special radio broadcasts will offer listeners exclusive backstage interviews recorded during the night, led by host Bob Harris, followed by a full broadcast of the concert. Additionally, television highlights from the evening will be presented as part of a dedicated country music celebration.
