Newly Released Bodycam Footage Shows Morgan Wallen’s Initial Denial in Nashville Chair-Throwing Incident
Nashville, TN – Newly released police body camera footage from the Metro Nashville Police Department reveals country music star Morgan Wallen initially denied throwing a chair from the balcony of Eric Church’s downtown Nashville bar. The incident, which occurred on April 7, 2024, saw a chair fall from the roof of Chief’s on Broadway, landing near a patrol vehicle.
The footage captures officers responding to the scene and confronting Wallen, who repeatedly asserted he did not throw the chair. Despite his initial denials, Wallen later pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the incident.
Months after the event, Wallen was charged with two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment. Following his guilty plea, Judge Cynthia Chappell sentenced him to seven days at a DUI education center and two years of supervised probation. These charges were reduced from original felony counts before Wallen entered his plea.
The bodycam video further details Wallen making a phone call, where he is heard telling Eric Church, “Eric Church is on the phone… they’re trying to take me to jail outside of your f—— bar.” Officers subsequently reviewed surveillance footage inside the establishment, which reportedly showed Wallen throwing the chair. They then informed him of the visual evidence.
Throughout the interaction, Wallen expressed remorse, stating, “I truly didn’t mean no harm,” “Sorry to cause problems, I didn’t mean to,” and “God d— it, I am sorry man.” An officer noted, “He didn’t admit to it, but we got him on camera doing it,” adding that witnesses corroborated the incident.
Later, while in the back of a police cruiser, Wallen engaged with an officer, asking them to list their favorite country singers. The officer included Wallen in his top three just as a duet featuring the singer and Thomas Rhett began playing on the radio.
Wallen reacted, saying, “This is me and Thomas Rhett! Turn it up.
That’s me and TR! That’s me right there,” and sang along briefly.
He added, “TR is one of the best dudes in the world. He would definitely not be getting arrested.”
Wallen was originally facing charges of disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor, and three counts of felony reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. His lawyer, Worrick Robinson, stated in December that Wallen “has cooperated fully with authorities throughout these last eight months, directly communicating and apologizing to all involved.” Robinson added that Wallen “remains committed to making a positive impact through his music and foundation.”
Since the resolution of his court case, Wallen has reportedly focused on his music career, having released his fourth studio album, “I’m the Problem,” in May.
