Nicole Kidman’s Six-Word Zinger About Tom Cruise Divorce Resurfaces Amid Keith Urban Split
Hollywood star Nicole Kidman’s recent divorce filing from country singer Keith Urban has brought a classic, quick-witted remark she made about her previous split from Tom Cruise back into the spotlight, captivating fans online.
The viral moment stems from an August 2, 2001, appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” At the time, Kidman was navigating her highly publicized divorce from Cruise when the late-night host directly addressed the situation.
“I heard you’re getting divorced. How’s that going?”
Letterman asked.
After some playful banter where Kidman admitted to receiving “a lot of questions” about her breakup, she delivered a six-word quip that brought down the house and continues to resonate with audiences today: “Well, I can wear heels now.” The audience erupted in cheers and applause, with even Letterman joining in the laughter before Kidman declared, “Let’s move on. Now we move on.”
The resurfacing clip comes as Kidman, 56, officially filed for divorce from Keith Urban, 55, on September 30, citing “irreconcilable differences” and “marital difficulties” after 19 years of marriage. Court documents indicate Kidman is seeking primary residential parent status for their two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret.
Before her marriage to Urban in 2006, Kidman was married to Tom Cruise for over a decade. The couple, who met on the set of “Days of Thunder” in 1989, married in 1990 and adopted two children, Isabella and Connor, before their 2001 separation.
Meanwhile, Keith Urban has made his first public appearances since the divorce news broke. Just two days after the filing, the country superstar performed in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Notably absent from the stage was guitarist Maggie Baugh, who had previously drawn attention after a video circulated showing Urban changing a lyric in his song “The Fighter” to name her during a September concert. While Urban has a history of altering these specific lyrics (once singing Carrie Underwood’s name when they performed the duet), he reportedly dropped “The Fighter” from his setlist entirely at the October 2 show.
Despite the recent personal upheaval, one poignant moment during Urban’s Hershey performance saw a slideshow of photos accompanying his 2024 track, “Heart Like a Hometown.” Amidst the images, a photo of Kidman alongside their two children was prominently featured.
