Meghan Markle’s Labor Twerking Video Stirs Royal Controversy

A video shared by Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, depicting her twerking in a maternity ward to induce labor, has been labeled “utterly bizarre” by a royal expert, who suggested the act would have “horrified” King Charles.

The footage, posted on Princess Lilibet’s fourth birthday, shows the Duchess energetically dancing alongside Prince Harry. In the clip, Meghan is seen twerking enthusiastically to Starrkeisha’s “Baby Momma Anthem,” her skirt hiked above her knees, arms raised, and hands on her hips, moving rhythmically.

Captioning the video, Meghan explained her rationale, stating, “Four years ago today, this also happened.” She elaborated that after traditional methods like spicy food, extensive walking, and acupuncture proved ineffective for her children, who were both a week past their due dates, dancing seemed like the “only thing left to do.”

Royal commentator Jennie Bond weighed in on the viral clip, telling a national publication that the moments leading up to childbirth are typically among the “most personal, intimate and private” for any couple. While acknowledging a woman’s right to do “whatever they feel like to get through the waiting, and the pain,” Bond criticized the decision to share such scenes with the world.

“To share those scenes with the world is utterly bizarre and, in my view, takes away all the magic of the moment. I cannot imagine why she chose to release it,” Bond stated.

The expert further suggested that the royal family would likely perceive the video as “vulgar,” predicting King Charles would be “horrified.” Bond also highlighted a perceived contradiction, noting, “They can’t demand privacy and be so coy about sharing images of their children and then show us all these intensely intimate scenes.” She added that Meghan “cannot expect to be treated as if she’s royal” while producing content akin to social media influencers.

Despite her criticisms, Bond conceded that the footage might resonate positively with a younger demographic. She noted her own daughter found the video “humanized both Meghan and Harry and was light-hearted and hugely relatable,” reminding her of her own pregnancies and labors, calling it “rather charming.”
