Kim Kardashian Dishes on “Toxic” Cycles Leading to Ye Divorce

Nearly three years after finalizing her divorce from rapper Ye, reality television mogul Kim Kardashian is finally pulling back the curtain on the “toxic” cycles that ultimately led her to initiate the split.

In a candid Oct. 15 appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Kardashian, 44, revealed to host Alex Cooper that her decision to walk away was driven by a desire to set a better example for her four children with Ye (formerly known as Kanye West): North, 12, Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 6.

“Once my mental health starts to get affected and then I can’t parent the way that I need to and I can’t be present and focused, then there’s gotta be one of us that can,” Kardashian explained regarding the marriage. “I had to save myself in order to be a better mom for everyone. And I think, when everyone’s older, they’ll be able to understand it.”

Co-Parenting Realities: Why It Matters

Since the separation, Kardashian has consciously avoided “toxic relationships” in her dating life. While she acknowledged that early signs of Ye’s mental health struggles might have been apparent to outsiders, she emphasized that her initial instinct was to offer support.

“When someone has their first mental break, you wanna be super supportive and you want to help figure that out,” she said. “You want to really get into that with them and be there for them.”

However, when Ye was unwilling to make necessary changes, Kardashian realized the marriage had reached its breaking point.

“When you have kids, it’s definitely harder to leave than it is to stay. And it changes everyone’s life forever,” she remarked, adding, “(An) over a decade relationship with four beautiful children is not a failure.”

As Ye’s behavior grew increasingly erratic, Kardashian admitted to feeling unsafe, not just physically but emotionally and even financially.

“Just not feeling safe not even physically, just maybe emotionally or even financially,” she confided to Cooper. She recounted instances where she would return home to find their five Lamborghinis gone, given away by Ye during an “episode.”

Ye has publicly discussed his bipolar diagnosis. In recent years, his online outbursts have escalated from eccentric musings to hateful rants, including racist and antisemitic remarks. He has also faced multiple lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct and improper workplace behavior.

“I didn’t know what you’re gonna get when you wake up,” Kardashian shared, describing the unsettling feeling of living with such unpredictability.
