Britney Spears Fires Back at Ex Kevin Federline Over “Constant Gaslighting” Claims
Pop superstar Britney Spears is not holding back against her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, vehemently denying his “scathing claims” about her parenting in his upcoming book. Spears took to social media, labeling his allegations as “constant gaslighting” and “extremely hurtful and exhausting.”
The “Stronger” singer, whose conservatorship concluded four years ago, expressed her long-standing desire for a life with her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James. “Relationships with teenage boys is complex,” her statement read. “I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life.”
Spears and Federline, who were married from 2004 to 2007, welcomed their two sons during their marriage. Federline was granted sole custody in 2008 following Spears’ conservatorship.
Now, in excerpts from his forthcoming book, “You Thought You Knew,” Federline makes several disturbing accusations. These include claims that Spears consumed cocaine while breastfeeding their second son, held a knife while watching her sons sleep, and engaged in alleged cheating and a physical incident.
According to an excerpt shared with Us Weekly, Federline describes an alleged cocaine incident in 2006 at his album release party. He claims to have seen Spears and a friend snorting cocaine, and when he confronted her, she allegedly threw a cocktail in his face, an event he says “ended us.”
A New York Times excerpt from the memoir further alleges that their sons would sometimes awaken to find Spears “standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep” with a knife in her hand, before silently departing.
In her powerful social media retort, Spears stated that her sons have “always witnessed the lack of respect show by [their] own father for me” and urged them to “take responsibility for themselves.” She revealed that she has seen one son for only “45 min in the past 5 years” and the other only four times since 2021.
“I have pride too,” the Grammy-winning vocalist asserted, indicating her intention to make herself more available to her sons.
This isn’t the first time Federline has made public claims about Spears. In a 2022 Daily Mail interview, he stated their sons “decided they are not seeing her right now” and opted not to attend her marriage to Sam Asghari, which has since ended in divorce. At the time, Federline also expressed concerns about Spears’ “scantily-clad Instagram posts” and their impact on their teenage sons.
Spears previously called those comments “HURTFUL.”
Federline’s “You Thought You Knew” is set to be released on Tuesday, two years after Spears published her own memoir, “The Woman in Me,” which delved into her struggles with drugs, her relationship with Justin Timberlake, and her conservatorship.
Spears concluded her recent statement by dismissing her ex-husband’s “white lies in that book” as a ploy for financial gain. She also urged her followers to be skeptical of tabloid reports regarding her mental health and drinking.
“I am actually a pretty intelligent woman who has been trying to live a sacred and private life the past 5 years,” she declared. “I speak on this because I have had enough and any real woman would do the same.”
