Rumors Dismissed: Keith Urban Not Dating Guitarist Maggie Baugh, Friend Confirms
NASHVILLE, TN – Speculation surrounding country superstar Keith Urban and his guitarist Maggie Baugh has been put to rest by Baugh’s friend, fellow country singer Alexandra Kay. Kay firmly denied any romantic involvement between Urban and Baugh, clarifying that Baugh is happily in a relationship.
Rumors began to swirl after a video circulated showing Urban, 57, altering lyrics during a performance of his hit song “The Fighter,” specifically naming Baugh, 25, while on stage. This came less than a month after Nicole Kidman filed for divorce from Urban, ending their 19-year marriage.
“Honestly, I was heartbroken for them because the media scrutiny is insane and the things that people say,” Kay told Taste of Country. “They’re like stirring up rumors about Maggie Baugh, and I’m like, ‘She’s a good friend of mine, and I know that’s absolutely not true.'”
Kay elaborated, “I’ve met her boyfriend, and she’s very happy. And she has nothing to do with that whole relationship [Urban and Kidman].” She expressed sadness for all involved, adding, “I pray for peace for them and for everybody to have their privacy.”
Representatives for Urban and Baugh have not yet responded to requests for comment.
The video that ignited the rumors captured Urban swapping the original lyric “When they’re tryna get to you, baby I’ll be the fighter” with “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie, I’ll be your guitar player.” Baugh, also a singer, posted this video to her Instagram on September 26, four days before Kidman’s divorce filing.
However, this isn’t the first time Urban has customized his lyrics for a duet partner. In 2017, he famously changed the same lyric to “Carrie Underwood, I’m gonna be your fighter!” while performing with Underwood at the CMT Music Awards.
Urban himself appeared to address the over-analysis of his lyric changes last week during his High and Alive World Tour stop in Nashville. Before launching into “You’ll Think of Me,” a fan-shared TikTok video shows Urban telling the audience, “I’ve been covering like this for a long time.
Stop reading s— into it. It’s called ‘You’ll Think of Me.'”
He then proceeded to alter lyrics in that song as well, changing “But you’ll think of me” to “But I betcha think about me!” and “Take your space and take your reasons” to “All your bull—- reasons.”
Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman married in 2006 and share two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret.
