Bronx Man Arrested After Brutal Attack on Stepdaughter, Wife
Bronx, NY – A 28-year-old man, Joshua Burnside, has been arrested and charged in connection with a horrific attack that left his 12-year-old stepdaughter in a coma and his wife hospitalized. The incident, which unfolded on Wednesday, saw the young girl allegedly stabbed multiple times and a screw hammered into her skull.
According to authorities, the violent episode began when Burnside reportedly attacked his wife. She allegedly attempted to defend herself with a knife, but Burnside disarmed her and then used the weapon against both his wife and stepdaughter.
Reports indicate that Burnside’s wife, after allegedly being stabbed in the stomach and slashed across the face, fled the apartment to seek help, leaving her daughter behind with the attacker. Burnside then allegedly turned his aggression on the 12-year-old, repeatedly stabbing her before inserting a long screw into the side of her skull.
The young girl was rushed to the hospital for emergency medical attention and underwent surgery. She remains in a coma and is currently in the ICU. Doctors reportedly discovered the severity of her injuries, including the screw that had punctured her brain, after observing bruising on her head.
Burnside’s wife was also hospitalized with minor injuries. Two other children, aged two and five, were present in the apartment at the time of the attack but were unharmed.
Neighbors expressed their shock and confusion to local news outlets, recounting how Burnside’s wife had frantically knocked on several doors seeking assistance, but without her children. One neighbor stated, “It was like four or five doors she [the mother] pounded on.”
Another added, “We came outside and she was bleeding from her abdomen, so we were trying to figure out what was going on. Then once she started saying that there were kids there, that’s why he was like, ‘Oh my God,’ you know, you’re here, the kids are up there, what’s going on?”
Burnside faces charges of assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
